Watch Now on Facebook Live: Farm + Fable Dinner #3 w/ Aviona Rodriguez Brown, feat. Timothy White-Eagle - in support of Nurturing Roots!
Farm + Fable Storytelling Series
Farm + Fable is a storytelling project with 9 unique virtual events celebrating food, art, farming, and all the ways we nourish our communities.
The series features three amazing local artists: Simon Javan Okelo, Jay O’Leary Woods, and Aviona Rodriguez Brown. To get us started, each artist will be interviewed on the African Father in America (AFiA) podcast series, founded and hosted by Simon Javan Okelo. We’ll also be bringing in Vivian Phillips for a very special guest appearance as Simon’s personal interviewer.
Alongside the interviews, these artists will host three virtual storytelling dinners featuring live performances and building support for local BIPOC-operated farms: Black Farmers Collective, Black Star Farmers, and Nurturing Roots. Dinner guests will RSVP in advance to join us live in Zoom: you will receive recipes and a list of ingredients a few days in advance so that you can cook along with our artists in real time. We'll also broadcast the storytelling, cooking, and performance onto several social media pages so folks who don't RSVP can still enjoy key highlights.
Finally, once the growing season is underway we’ll be taking you out onto the farms with a series of three IG live farm tours hosted by Nat Mengist and featuring Hannah Wilson of Black Farmers Collective, Marcus Henderson of Black Star Farmers, and Nyema Clark of Nurturing Roots.
We hope you’ll join us to get to know these artists, learn their stories, and reconnect with community, land, and the food we eat!
This series is made possible by our supporters: 4Culture, The Common Acre, and the African Father in America podcast.
